a refuge, a safe place, a home for kids...
The problems facing the world and, especially youth today, are overwhelming - the pandemic, poverty, homelessness, crime, drugs, racial tension. But the problems aren’t just “out there.” They’re in our homes and personal. Problems like domestic violence, suicide, and social disconnectedness are crippling this upcoming generation. However, the problems go even deeper: the number one problem facing our society today is actually the absence of the father and the resulting breakdown of the family. We want to do more – by taking care of the fatherless and putting the lonely in families.
Our goal is to build a small housing development, consisting of 4 homes that will offer affordable housing as well as educational and emotional support services to area youth. One home will be a safe house for vulnerable children to hang out after school or simply be a place to go when there is trouble in their home. This project will also address gang intervention by redirecting youth to education and trade training in a community context that will offer a live-in schooling and training opportunity modeled after Homeboy Industries in LA. Two homes will be dedicated for this purpose. The fourth home will be used for a program director.
We'd love your prayers and support in building Shiloh.
